Kidneys are important in order to flush bacteria and other various substances out of the body. The excretory system is just as important in dogs as it is in humans, in fact, kidney problems such as kidney disease and kidney failure are unhealthily common in dogs.

Signs of Possible Kidney Problems

Loss or decreased appetite

Change in amount of urine output

Change in water consumption

Breath that smells chemically

Vomiting

Weight loss

Pale gums

Be mindful that if your dog showing any of the signs listed above, it is a good time to get them to your trusted Veterinarian.

Prevention

In order to prevent most kidney related issues such as kidney disease, make sure your dog’s intake of water is appropriate based on their activity level and their weight. Also, helping your dog maintain proper oral hygiene can benefit them in relation to their kidneys. Since the mouth is the main source of entry for the body, it is better to be mindful of what your dog ingests.
