Charleston is going to the dogs this weekend with the 20th anniversary of the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition! Our state dog, the Boykin Spaniel, is even featured on the 2019 poster by artist Lou Pasqua. Friday, February 15 through Sunday, February 17, you can enjoy art exhibits, wildlife presentations and cooking demonstrations all over downtown Charleston, but the real fun will be at Brittlebank Park with four events showcasing our favorite species…dogs!

  1. Dockdogs – we are all familiar with this favorite summer activity here in the Lowcountry! SEWE is the only two-tank Dockdogs event east of the Mississippi and will showcase dogs of all sizes and breeds competing in Big Air, Extreme Vertical and Speed Retrieve events. Competition starts on Friday and concludes on Sunday with finals in all 3 events. Palmetto Dock Dogs will be there competing!
  2. Search & Rescue Demonstrations with STARR – Search Tactics & Rescue Recovery is a non-profit, volunteer organization based in Swansea, SC that assists official agencies search for lost and missing persons. Come see their highly trained K-9’s demonstrate how they help in search and rescue missions.
  3. Sheep & Duck Herding – Bill Coburn of Wind Knoll Farm in Laurens, SC will be demonstrating how he uses Border Collies to move sheep & ducks through various obstacles using only a few commands and a whistle!
  4. Retriever Demonstrations – come watch dogs of all breeds and ages demonstrate their awesome retrieving skills! Handlers will be on site to answer questions and tell you how to get involved.

So leash up your pup, grab a friend and take a ride to Brittlebank Park to enjoy what Southeastern Wildlife Exposition has to offer. We’ll see you there!
