Welcome and thank you for visiting Dog Tired. My name is Gray, president of Dog Tired. I have lived locally in the Charleston area for 12 years, originally from Greenwood, SC. My entire life has revolved around animals from the 4-H Club, volunteering at the River Banks Zoo with the Seals & Sea Lions, Carolina Wildlife Care (caring for orphaned and injured wildlife), training horses, breeding and showing Jack Russell Terriers, and volunteering for animal shelters across the US.
Health and safety of our clients’ pets is our number one priority. Dog Tired has been nominated as a Charter Member of the Dog Gurus, an industry leader in training and safety for off leash dog play. Our constant training and education has allowed us to have the best trained staff in the Charleston area. We continually strive to meet the rigorous standards set by The Dog Gurus. My staff and I are, or will become, American Red Cross Certified in Emergency Care for dogs and cats. Additionally, all staff members undergo an extensive 16 week training course on dog body language with workbooks and testing provided by The Dog Gurus. My current menagerie of fur kids include: 15 year old Jack Russell terrier, Stella; 3 year old rescue cattle dog mix, Tilly Monster; 3 year old rescue Orange Tabby Ruby Sue; 3 year old rescue snow shoe siamese mix, Folly; and a large fish tank. I graduated from Park University in Parkville, Missouri, in 2002 with a B/A in Biology. As a fellow animal lover, I know and understand the importance of proper detail oriented pet care and the daily exercise of your pets. I understand and empathize with pet owners when they have to leave their loved ones behind. Our service provides individualized care, safety, love, and affection while you are away, as we would for our own pets, providing you peace of mind.
In 2009 I made my dream of spoiling and caring for dogs and cats come true when I opened Dog Tired. I quickly came to the realization that there was a need for specialized boarding of dogs and cats amongst other pocket pets in a home-like setting. Pets could opt to stay in their own home surroundings or come to a comfy home-like setting. Two years after starting the business, with the help of some great pet sitters, support of family and friends, and of course all of my wonderful clients, I opened Dog Tired’s first commercial location on Johns Island, SC. Additionally, in the spring of 2011, my sister, Lis Boland, also opened a Dawg Tired in Macon, Georgia.
Additionally, in November 2012, I traveled to Baltimore, Maryland, for The Pet Boarding and Daycare Expo. I also traveled to Hershey, PA for an additional daycare and boarding conference in November 2014. We are constantly striving to improve our facility by continuing education and learning the newest trends in the business.
Every year Dog Tired hosts a donation and fundraising drive for Pet Helpers, Charleston Animal Society, and other local rescue groups. We care about the pets in our community and are very involved with educating our community in the importance of adopting and fostering pets. Charleston Animal Society is striving to be a NO KILL SHELTER by 2015! We want to help them meet this goal!
