When it comes to skin conditions in dogs, one of the most commonly known condition is hotspot. This skin condition can be itchy, painful, and develop in a matter of minutes. It’s medical name is Pyotraumatic Dermatitis, and today we want to give our clients insight on the possible causes and symptoms.

Possible Symptoms

  • Persistent licking, chewing, or scratching
  • Alopecia
  • Red, swollen, or moist lesions

Possible Causes

  • Focused chewing or licking in a specific area on the dog’s body
  • Flea bite
  • Food hypersensitivity
  • Contact Dermatitis

If you notice a hot spot, it is best to reach out to your veterinarian as soon as possible as the wound may become infected overnight.
