Beach season is upon us! Now is a great time to review all of the local beaches and their individual regulations for dogs.

Kiawah Island: Dogs are allowed on Kiawah Island’s famous 10 Mile Beach year round, however dogs must be leashed at all times from March 16th to October 31st. Dogs are allowed to be off leash from November 1st to March 15th. Dogs are prohibited from being in the Critical Habitat Areas at all times.

Sullivan’s Island: Off-leash dogs are welcome to enjoy the beautiful beach on Sullivan's Island from 5:00 am to 10:00 am and leashed dogs are welcome on the beach from 6:00 pm to 5:00 am. Dogs are not permitted on the beach between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. All dogs on Sullivan Island, including day visitors and vacation renters, must have a town-issued dog permit to visit the island, including the beach. Town Hall (located at 2050-B Middle Street) issues annual permits for $35 per dog. Completed applications and proof of valid rabies vaccination are required for permit.

Folly Beach: While dogs are allowed on Folly Beach year-round, from May 1st to September 30th dogs aren't allowed on the beach between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. A maximum fine of $500 can be issued to anyone who breaks this rule. Dogs must be on a leash while on the beach and under control by their owners.

Isle of Palms: Dogs are allowed on IOP from 5:00 AM until 9:00 AM April 1st through September 14th and 4:00 PM until 10:00 AM September 15th through March 31st. Dog owners must have leash in hand, have their dog under voice command and must clean up excrement. At all other times, dogs must be on leash and under complete control, even in the water.

Edisto Beach: Just an hour drive tucked away on the coast is Edisto Beach. If you are looking for a non-crowded tucked away gem with great beaches and fun restaurants. Edisto Beach is a must for a great beach day. Edisto Beach is a dog-friendly beach provided pet parents abide by the rules set forth in the town's ordinances. From May 1 to Oct. 31, all dogs must be on a leash at all times. Owners are required to clean up after their pets as well and there are waste bags available on the beach. In the off season, dogs are not required to be leashed but under voice control of the owner.
